Best Fitness Apps Of 2023 (Updated)

In this article, I’m going to share with you my four go-to health and fitness Apps that you can download onto your phone today.

I’m going to share my favorite App in each of the top four health categories; Workouts, Nutrition, Sleep, and Wellness. At the end of this article I will reveal my overall best Health and Fitness App of 2023.

Best Fitness Apps of 2023

Starting with arguably the best workout App;

Apple Fitness+ (Best Workout App)iOS

This is literally one of my all-time workout Apps of this year, and it really helped me out during the pandemic lockdowns. What I love about it is that it has a huge variety of workouts including but not limited to; Dance, Cycling, Rowing, Pilates, Hip workouts etc. In addition, they have fun, impressionable trainers that push you, but also give you modifications depending on your workout plan.

Even more, they have a ton of addons such as new meditation practices, as well as celebrity ‘Time to Walk’ with guest speakers such as Prince Williams and Shawn Mendes.

What’s really cool is that it syncs with your Apple Health App. This allows you to get a summary of all your different stats and trends after each workout. On top of this, you can share the membership with family members, if you’ve enabled family sharing through your Apple account.

This leads me to the one negative thing about the Apple Fitness+ App; It is only available on Apple devices, and it only works if you have an Apple Watch Series 3 or later. Other than that, there’s really no major negative about the Apple Fitness+ App. It’s reliable, it’s updated weekly, and it can literally be the only workout App that you need to stay fit.

Moving on to my favorite App for nutrition;

Yummly (Best Nutrition App)iOS / Android

What I love about Yummly is the fact that it has a ton of recipes to choose from. You can choose from multiple trending dishes, different cuisine styles, and so much more. Once you pick your dish or recipe, you can actually see all the ingredients that you need, the nutritional facts about that dish, plus reviews from other App users who’ve tried that recipe. Moreover, they have really high-quality video-guided cooking sessions that you can follow step by step.

Another plus for Yummly is that you can plan your meals for the week, and also automatically translate those ingredients into a digital grocery-list on your phone that you can check-off when shopping for food.

It’d be nice if I was able to keep track of the food I’m eating, and see the collective amount of carbs, proteins, vitamins, and fats I had in a day. Something like what MyFitness Pal allows you to do. However, that can sometimes take the fun out of eating healthy. That’s what I love about Yummly. It makes cooking and eating healthy enjoyable and fun.

Moving on to my Favorite Sleep Monitoring App;

Whoop (Best Sleep App)iOS / Android

Before I talk about Whoop, I’ve got to let you know that you need a Whoop device to use this App. It is not a stand-alone sleep tracker.

Out of all the Sleep tracking Apps that I have used, the Whoop App is top-notch when it comes to sleep monitoring. You can track your overall sleep performance; the actual time spent in bed awake versus asleep, you can see how many interruptions you had while sleeping, and track your sleep efficiency.

I specially love the Recovery tracking feature which focuses on your heartrate variability, your resting heartrate, your quality of sleep, and your respiratory rate. All this metrics are meant to give you a recovery score at a 100% to help you know if you recovered from the day before.

They also have other cool sleep tracking features such as the Sleep Coach, which helps determine a suggested bed time and the total amount of sleep needed in order to perform at your best. Even more they have smart alarms that trigger your wrist band, you wake you up when you’ve had the optimal amount of sleep.

Lastly, one of my favorite features of the Whoop App is the performance assessment which comes in weekly and monthly. This lets you know which habits and behaviors led to your average quality of sleep over time.

Now to the fourth App. Given the growing interest in wellness and mindfulness over the last few years, I had to include a meditation App.

Calm (Best Wellness App)iOS / Android

What I love about Calm is the variety of meditations that help you to improve your productivity and focus, help you manage anxiety and building better relationships. Another huge part of the App is their Sleeping features which include sleep stories from celebrities such as Idris Alba and Lebron James. They also have different background music options from instrumentals to movie inspired sound tracks like Dune.

Personally, this App has really helped me get through some stressful times during the pandemic lockdowns. I definitely became a believer in meditation after going through their 30-day ‘Know How to Meditate’ Series.

And now I will share my Overall Favorite Fitness App of 2022;

Fitbit (Best Overall App)iOS / Android

Yes, it does require a Fitbit device, but it’s totally worth it because this App has everything. It keeps track of your standard health metrics such as;

  • Total Activity
  • Calories burnt
  • Sleep Quality
  • Readiness Score
  • Stress & Anxiety Levels
  • Total number of mindful minutes
  • Collective water and Nutrition intake etc.

Even more, with the Pro Membership you get access to;

  • Workout videos
  • Meditation sessions
  • Recipe Ideas
  • Guided Programs
  • Wellness Reports

You even get the opportunity to enjoy Fitbit communities that you can be a part of. Members provide motivation and support to help each other reach their health and fitness goals.

Whenever someone asks me to recommend a great Health and Fitness App, I always go with the Fitbit App. This is like the Gold-Standard for fitness Apps.
