In early 2018, PayPal partnered with MPesa to enable both their users transact between the two popular platforms with ease. Prior to that, the easiest to transact was linking your PayPal account to your Bank account. Even though the method worked, it took two to three days to complete a transaction, which was not ideal. To enjoy this convenience, you have to be an M-PESA customer and you must have a PayPal account. Linking your accounts is easy, quick and straightforward.
How to Link your PayPal account to your MPesa Account
Go to www.paypal-mobilemoney.com/m-pesa. Click the ‘Log in’ button on the top-right corner of the web page.
You will see a pop up window requiring you to log into your PayPal account. Use your PayPal email and password to login.
Link your PayPal and MPesa accounts by entering the number associated with your M-Pesa account.
You will receive a confirmation code on your Safaricom line via SMS text. Enter the code and click confirm.
That’s it. Your two accounts are now connected and you can start transacting.
How to Top Up your PayPal account from MPesa
Go to the home page and click the ‘Top up to PayPal’ button.
Use the calculator to evaluate the amount you need to convert to get the amount you want in dollars.
Go to MPesa and select ‘Lipa na MPesa’. Got to the Pay bill Menu and enter the number 800088 as the paybill number and your phone number as the account number. That’s it.
How to Withdraw from your PayPal account to MPesa
Got to the home page and click the ‘Withdraw from PayPal’ Button. You will be redirected to the withdraw page.
Enter the amount you want to withdraw and click ‘withdraw’. You will see the amount converted to Kenya Shillings, and how long the transaction will take.
Click ‘confirm’ to finish. That’s it. Your money will be deposited to your account.
